City of Cleveland

Welcome to the official website for the City of Cleveland, Mississippi.

Cleveland was incorporated in 1886 three years after the railroad was built through the community of Simms (present-day Cleveland) and is located in the Mississippi River Delta in eastern Bolivar County.  Cleveland is about half way between Memphis, Tennessee and Jackson, Mississippi, and is located at the intersection of U. S. Highway 61 and Mississippi Highway 8.

Over the years Cleveland has grown to be the agricultural, manufacturing, commercial and educational center of Bolivar County and is one of two County seats.

Cleveland is a vibrant town and has been recognized as “one of the 100 best small communities” in the Nation and is also known as the “Crossroads of Culture in the Delta”.

In the heart of Cleveland lies Delta State University, home to more than 4,000 students and serves as the center for culture and the arts for the Delta.
